Advice: from a Savvy Manager

While considering a job offer to be in-house creative lead for a manufacturing company, I received the following wisdom from a former Employee Relations Manager at GE.
Are you aware of the four types of Advertising and Sales?

1. Hard Sell     Used Car Dealers
2. Soft Sell      TV commercials
3. Mad Sell      Red Bull skydiver from space
4. Sell Sell       A company that sells to savvy customers who understand subtle distinctions in product. The details matter, so it’s highly technical selling and usually not that creative.

I suspect the job offer you have is the fourth version and that you’d be bored in eight-months. If you feel you would have to change to fit the company culture, it’s not a great fit. Don’t hang out in groups where you are not honored. Be with people who let you be yourself.
In the end, I didn’t accept the offer. Instead I’m investing in all the relationships I’ve built in the Experience Design industry. I’m selling me, not a product, and I couldn’t be happier.

As Principal, Founder and overall Maven at Christie Kim Creative, Christie keeps fairly busy. She knows how often she's searched for tutorials  (as well as textures, inspiration and icons). This is her way to give back.

Testimonials
I was talking to a mutual connection today and I mentioned that I still loved the design that Christie helped bring to life for a company that I started. I know that I am an amateur customer in that area and could not have been the easiest client. Christie however communicated with a tremendous amount of clarity and I liked the decisions that she made on our behalf.

As a global marketing director, it is difficult to trust a designer to articulate your vision perfectly without very specific instruction. I trust Christie. She is able to take an idea and transform it into something better than imagined. She understands your business need, brand and end-goal quickly and is able to use her endless creativity to tell an impactful, visual story. She is professional, efficient and just fun to work with. I have let Christie work directly with many colleagues because I know she will deliver every single time. She makes my job easier and our brand shine.
